CraftSouthAfrica was established as an organisation for
developing and implementing sustainable craft enterprises and income
generation opportunities for South African crafters, in urban and rural
areas. This is achieved through product development and business skills
training programmes and mentorships.
Memory Stick Project
Kharkams, Northern Cape
CraftSouthAfrica was contracted by Conservation International to develop a craft project for historically disadvantaged individuals in Kharkams, Northern Cape. An income generation project was established around the production of Memory Sticks made from alien vegetation. Byron Qually of XYZ Design provided the technical development for the Memory Sticks. The alien vegetation is supplied by the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry’s Working for Water Programme (DWAF/WFW). Funding for this project is through SKEPPIES and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).
